Catching and treating gum disease.

Occasionally the build-up of plaque and tartar can lead to your gums becoming irritated or infected which are the earliest signs of gum disease. If left untreated, this can not only lead to symptoms such as pain, bleeding/swollen gums, and bone shrinkage but it can actually spread to other areas of the body.

About half of adults 30 and over suffer from some form of gum disease. In older adults, this figure is closer to 70%. Conducting good oral hygiene at home can prevent gum disease from occurring and spreading. However, for more serious cases, only a dental professional can remove the tartar and curb the spread of the disease.

Discovering gum disease early

One of the many reasons we recommend biyearly checks and cleanings is to catch and treat gum disease as early as possible. The longer one waits to treat gum disease, the higher the risk of serious complications arising as a result.

There are long established links between the bacteria caused from gum disease to heart disease, Diabetes, and other ailments. We can help prevent this from becoming a more serious issue through deep dental cleanings also known as scaling and root planing.

How we treat gum disease

Once gum disease is discovered, we will figure out the severity of the case and decide on the best and quickest course of action for treating it.

Our office is proud to offer the innovative treatment known as Laser Assisted Decontamination therapy. Although scaling and root planing is highly effective, the advanced laser technology allows us to go the extra distance and destroy close to 100% of the harmful bacteria beneath your gums, remove diseased tissue, and create a path for healthier tissue to regrow.
