Urgent Help, Delivered with Calm and Compassion
A dental emergency can be stressful — but the response shouldn’t be. At Philly Smiles, we’re here to provide fast, skilled, and comforting care when you need it most.
Our experienced team has been helping Rittenhouse Square and Center City residents navigate unexpected dental situations for over 30 years. Whether you’re dealing with a sudden toothache, cracked tooth, or swelling, we’ll make sure you feel heard, seen, and treated with urgency and respect.

What Is a Dental Emergency ?
If you're in pain, unable to chew, or something just doesn’t feel right, it’s worth a call. Common dental emergencies include:
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Knocked-out (avulsed) teeth
- Severe toothache or throbbing pain
- Swelling in the gums, face, or jaw
- Lost or broken crowns, bridges, or fillings
- Dental trauma or injury from an accident
- Infection or abscess
Even if you’re not sure it’s an emergency, we’re happy to talk you through it and offer guidance — including whether you need to be seen immediately.
Why Patients Trust Philly Smiles in a Crisis
Our patients often tell us that Philly Smiles “doesn’t feel like a dental office” — and in a dental emergency, that matters. Our calm, personal environment and familiar team help you feel at ease even when things don’t go as planned.
Here’s what sets our emergency care apart:
- Same-day and next-day availability whenever possible
- Experienced doctors who handle complex cases with a gentle touch
- Fee-for-service flexibility so you can choose care without insurance delays
- Transparent communication every step of the way
“Dr. Roberts and his team were amazing when I cracked a crown before a big meeting. They got me in the same day and had it fixed within an hour. Can’t say enough good things.” – Patient Review

Should I go to the ER or call a dentist?
For non-life-threatening issues like broken teeth, swelling, or pain, call us first. If you’re experiencing facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, or difficulty breathing, go to the nearest emergency room.
What if I lose a tooth?
Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root), keep it moist (in milk or saliva), and get to us immediately. The sooner we see you, the better the chances of saving it.
Do you accept emergency walk-ins?
While we recommend calling ahead, we do our best to accommodate emergency visits same-day or next-day, even for new patients.
